How to protect the car battery

Jan 25, 2025 Leave a message

Winter is a peak period for problems with car batteries. Many cars often experience battery depletion or failure to start after being parked for a few days. If not given sufficient attention during normal use or not maintained in time, such situations may occur.

So, how can we better protect the car battery?

To protect the battery, do the following three things less frequently:

Do not frequently start the engine

Do not start the engine for more than 3 seconds each time. Repeated and continuous starts can cause excessive discharge of the car battery and damage it.

Do not park for a long time

The car battery is charged by the generator while the vehicle is in normal driving. If the vehicle is parked for a long time, the alarm inside the vehicle will also consume the battery's power. Therefore, if the vehicle needs to be parked for a long time, it is best to start it once every week for at least 5 minutes to charge the battery.

Do not forget to turn off the car's electrical appliances

After parking and turning off the engine, if the interior lights or headlights are not turned off, the battery power will be completely depleted in one night, making it impossible to start the car. Similarly, most car owners are accustomed to not turning off the air conditioning when parking and having it automatically turn on when the vehicle starts. This will directly cause an excessive power load for the vehicle at once and is a kind of loss for the car battery in the long run.

When doing regular vehicle maintenance, you should check the car battery. When you find that the battery voltage is low, you should maintain or replace it. Battery charging is like changing a spare tire for a vehicle. It is a skill that every car owner should master, but it is indeed troublesome. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you keep a car booster and other tools in your car to deal with emergencies.
