Packaging requirements for jump starters during transportation

Dec 22, 2024 Leave a message

Lithium batteries and related products have stricter packaging requirements than other products. Here's a breakdown of the specific guidelines:

1.  A lithium battery label and markings must be clearly attached to the packaging. The battery's watt-hour (Wh) value must be marked on the battery case. If a dangerous goods package is used, the UN packaging mark, batch number, hazardous materials label, and placards should be clearly printed, securely affixed, and spelled correctly.
2.  The battery electrodes should not be subjected to pressure from other stacked batteries.
3.  Wooden boxes and fiberboard boxes should be tightly nailed and securely pressed. The box must stay intact, with nails turned over so that the nail heads don't stick out. Corrugated cardboard boxes should be in good condition, sealed flat and securely, and reinforced with packing tape. The box should be wrapped tightly.
4.  Non-conductive materials should be used to separate each battery or battery pack, as well as between the top and bottom layers of stacked batteries. This prevents contact with any conductive materials inside the package that could cause a short circuit.
5.  Unless installed in equipment, the package must be able to survive a 1.2-meter drop test from any angle, without damaging the batteries or causing them to shift and come into contact with each other. Also, no batteries should fall out of the package.

Currently, exporting jump starter doesn't require commodity inspection. However, since lithium batteries are classified as hazardous goods, an application for a dangerous goods packaging certification must be submitted to customs for approval. Dangerous goods using unapproved or unidentified packaging can't be exported.

JACK POWER has extensive experience in exporting jump starters and understands the import regulations and compliance requirements for various countries and regions. We are familiar with UN38.3 certification, IEC standards, and customs clearance processes. We can design custom packaging solutions based on different shipping methods and customer needs, using impact-resistant, moisture-proof, and anti-static materials to minimize the risk of battery damage during transport and ensure safe delivery.
