Do motorcycle batteries deteriorate?

As a motorcycle lithium battery manufacturer with 10 years of experience, we often hear customers ask:

"Will batteries break down over time? Will batteries deteriorate?"

Today, Jack Power, drawing on our 10 years of production and service experience, explains: Do motorcycle batteries actually deteriorate?

1. Do motorcycle batteries really deteriorate?

The answer is: Yes.

If motorcycle batteries are left unused for a long time, improperly charged, or stored in a poor environment, their performance will gradually deteriorate, and they may even become useless.

2. Why do motorcycle batteries deteriorate?

Based on our over 10 years of technical experience as a lithium battery supplier, the main causes of battery performance degradation or failure are:

1) Battery Self-Discharge

Batteries have a slight internal self-discharge mechanism. If left unused or uncharged for an extended period, the voltage will gradually drop.

When the voltage drops to the minimum value set by the protection board, the battery may enter a "dormant state" and, in severe cases, may become incapable of waking up.

2) Humid and hot environment with large temperature fluctuations

A humid environment can easily cause internal corrosion of the battery and rusting of the terminals, resulting in poor conductivity.

High temperatures or extreme cold can easily affect the activity of lithium batteries. Prolonged storage in an unsuitable environment can also cause battery performance to deteriorate.

3.) Incompatible charger

Using an inferior or incompatible charger can lead to voltage and current instability, which can damage the battery over time.

3. How to Prevent Motorcycle Battery Deterioration?

As an experienced motorcycle battery supplier in China, our advice to our customers is:

Start the motorcycle or charge the battery at least once a month.

Choose a reliable lithium battery with a fully protected battery management system.

Use an original or reputable brand charger.

When the battery is not in use for an extended period, remove it and store it in a dry, cool place.

Check the battery voltage regularly and address any issues promptly.
