What to do if the car battery is dead?

Jul 17, 2025 Leave a message

When you are ready to go out in the morning, you turn the key and find that the car cannot start. It is likely that the battery is dead. This situation is very common. It is not necessarily that the battery is broken. It may just be that the battery is out of power due to long-term non-use, forgetting to turn off the lights, or low temperatures in winter.

Method 1: Use a car emergency starting power supply (recommended)

Jump Starter is a portable lithium battery device with a built-in large-capacity battery cell that can easily start a dead car battery.

The steps to use are very simple:

Connect the red clip to the positive pole (+) of the battery and the black clip to the negative pole (-)

Start the vehicle

After success, remove the starting power supply within 30 seconds

✔ Advantages:

No assistance from others, one person can operate

Can be used multiple times, convenient for business trips/camping

Now there are also multi-functional versions with lighting, air pumps, etc.

ultra-safe to use

Method 2: Jump Start (requires another car)

Jump Start is a traditional method. You need to use a jumper wire to connect the battery of another car to provide you with power to start.

Simple steps:

Both cars are turned off → red wire connects to the positive poles of both cars, black wire connects to the negative pole of the rescue car and the metal part of your car

Start the rescue car and wait for 1-2 minutes

Start your car

After success, disconnect the jumper wire (black first, then red)

Method 3: Replace a new battery

If your battery has been used for more than 3 years, or the battery is often out of power, it is recommended to replace it with a new battery directly.

You can contact a 4S store or a nearby repair shop for on-site replacement

Some batteries are difficult to recover after the power drops, and frequent power loss can easily damage the vehicle computer board

Method 4: Call roadside assistance

If you don't have a jumper wire or an emergency power supply, it is best to call car insurance or roadside assistance.

Why does the car battery run out of power?

Understand the reasons to avoid encountering them next time:

Forget to turn off the lights/reading lights/driving recorders

Not starting for a long time (more than 7-10 days)

Battery activity decreases due to cold weather

Battery aging (more than 3 years)

Battery quality is poor or circuit leakage
